A taxi driver banned for causing the death by careless driving of a motorcyclist has been caught driving whilst banned.

Graham Douglas, 29, of Fort William, has been jailed for 10 months for dangerous driving – he was driving at 67mph in a 30mph zone when he collided with Andy Macleod in March 2011.

Driver pleads guilty to death by careless driving of motorcyclist (25/07/12)

Peter Leyden was killed when driver, Siona Hughes, pulled into his path at a junction on a dual carriageway in July 2012. She has pleaded guilty to death by careless driving.

Unlicenced driver banned and fined £75 for "careless" driving which hit cyclist (27/3/12)

An unlicenced driver has been banned from driving following his conviction for careless driving which injured cyclist Gareth Wellings, causing his bike frame to snap.

CTC's view: 

In the absence of evidence of obvious reckless intent, a driving ban is the appropriate response in this case. However it is disturbing that this is the second time Messenger has been caught using a motor vehicle while unlicenced. He should not receive any leniency if he flouts his driving ban again.

Frank Mugisha killed while cycling in Tottenham (27/3/12)

Mr Mugisha, 41, from Enfield, died 6 days after the collision with a car at the junction of Great Cambridge Road and White Hart Lane. He had been in a coma since the crash. He was originally from Uganda but moved with his family to Britain some years ago.

Two year ban and 8 months in jail for driver who killed 70 year-old cyclist in Ashington (5/8/2010)

A driver has been jailed for killing a pensioner on the same stretch of road where he was once caught speeding at 100mph.

CTC's view: 

A very short jail sentence but, even worse, merely a 2 year driving ban? This man had a string of driving convictions. This is a clear cut case of someone who should never be allowed to drive again.

Driver who killed cyclist on A5 receives suspended sentence and fine (20/3/11)

A 28-year-old man has been sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court today for causing the death of a cyclist on the A5 in Milton Keynes.

CTC's view: 

A pathetic penalty for this uninsured driver. Apparently adjusting your radio when you kill someone makes it a less serious crime.
