Grandfather-of-two Eddie Tucker, a lorry driver, was cycling along Leete Road, Cherry Hinton, when he was struck by the hit and run driver, who had neither car insurance nor a UK driving licence.

CTC's view: 

It was the driver behaviour in this case that caused the cyclist to come off his bike, not the fact that the cyclist was walking his dog. However, cyclists should be mindful of the Highway Code section 66, rule 51, which states that ‘cyclists should not not carry anything which will affect your balance or may get tangled up with your wheels or chain’. This could happen with a dog lead, depending on the level of obedience and temperament of the dog.
