Policeman who injured singer/songwriter Pepe Belmonte in Hackney charged with dangerous driving (31/3/2011)
A British Transport Police officer has admitted carelessly driving a police van which collided with a cyclist in east London.
Pc David Lynch, 31, denied dangerous driving but pleaded guilty to careless driving.
The officer will stand trial accused of dangerously driving the Mercedes Vito van which hit singer and songwriter Pepe Belmonte on March 31, 2011.
At London’s Southwark Crown Court, Lynch was told that he is accused of driving “a mechanically propelled vehicle, namely a Mercedes Vito van, on Queensbridge Road, dangerously”.
The incident in Hackney prompted an Independent Police Complaints Commission investigation into the case.
He is due to stand trial at the same court on August 20, 2012.
