Driver 'blinded by low sun' fined for injuring cyclist in Cambridge (30/11/2011)
32-year-old Katerina Plithalova has been fined for careless driving after injuring a cyclist in Cambridge in 2011.
The cyclist was taken to hospital with foot, knee and shoulder injuries after the crash, but did not have any serious injuries. The magistrate declared that the fault lay on the driver, saying “you were in charge of the car and the driver is responsible in any collision like this.”
Plithalova was fined £140, told to pay £85 costs and received four penalty points.
Plithalova claimed that low sun may have prevented her from seeing the cyclist – a common excuse that has been attempted (often successfully) in many other cases – see http://www.stop-smidsy.org.uk/category/offender/dazzled
