Anthony Maynard killed near Henley - no prosecution of van driver (3/7/08)

Anthony Maynard was killed while on a training ride with a friend on the A4130 in July 2008.

A man arrested in connection with the death of Reading Cycle Club member Anthony Maynard had police action against him dropped.

He had previously been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and was bailed to last Saturday.

Mr Paull said: “No further action is being taken against the man.”

Mr Maynard, from London Road, was killed on Thursday, July 3, following a crash in Bix near Henley on the A4130.

He died when the bike he was riding was involved in a collision with a blue Ford transit van.

The 25-year-old was riding with pal David Ivory, a fellow Reading Cycling Club member. Mr Ivory suffered leg and internal injuries in the crash.

Fellow cycle club members described Mr Maynard, who previously attended Waingels College in Denmark Avenue, Woodley, as “always positive”.

Club chairman Adrian Lawson, who also spearheads Reading Cycle Campaign, urged drivers after the incident to be more aware of cyclists on the road.
